Free to a Good Home! The Death Sentence. This is how some people see your “free” pet.: Free bait to train fighting dogs. Free bait to train greyhounds. Free fish bait. Free snake food. Free money from research labs. Free sacrifice for satanic rituals. Free animal for malicious pranks. Free animal to set on fire. Free to a “good home” to breed indiscriminately. Now you know why adoption fees are charged for pets, and why you should always screen so carefully for good homes “Free” is all too often seen as “worthless” in the eye of the beholder. Please don’t offer your pets FREE to a good home unless you don’t care what happens to them.

Dear Editor et al.,

Well, they are at it again. In the city budget meeting, they wanted to replace 20 golf carts at an ungodly amount. We shouldn’t even be in the golf business. This isn’t Vegas. Kingman can’t afford to support this nonsense. Just so some good old boys can get their jollies and try to feel like big shots at the voters’ expense.

We have unemployed, sick, seniors, homeless and low income people here. Help them … quit blowing tax dollars on frivolities. Kingman can’t afford it … get it? Kingman can’t afford it.

Well folks, March 13 is election day. We can cut out this nonsense if you all vote them out.

Vote in Janice L. Palmer. I’m your honorable candidate that will represent you. Not personal interest … ok?

Editor et al.,

Any endeavor to encourage or force our unpatriotic corporate leaders to bring back a huge piece of our manufacturing industry that was wantonly inspired by greed and sent overseas, has been blatantly bogged down by the refusal of Congress to address the deplorable situation. And, it is not only Congress but also our corporate leaders who not only sacrificed hundreds of thousands of jobs in America, but are flooding the market with highly inferior products; products like garments and shoes that have no set standard of sizing.

Clothing from overseas no longer states the material used in manufacturing the product. Shoes: Are the uppers made of leather? Are the soles made of leather? Are both made from man-made materials, which generally speaking, are plastic?

I have had the soles of my shoes crack in half; likewise with upper construction.

Garments must be tried on to determine fit, and due exact sizes being partially eliminated, a good fit is a 50/50 proposition.

At this point in time, it seems highly improbable that industry will be brought back to America. Quality will not be regulated, sizing will remain haphazard. Worse yet, corporate leaders, of course, have no conscience and will continue to luxuriate in their profits with a “Go to hell” attitude toward the consumer. After all, the consumer must have the imported products to, more or less, survive. Corporate influence, unethical, if not embracing unlawfulness, will not allow change in ever continuing Congressional misbehavior.

Congresspersons, including its leaders, this administration, various political leaders throughout the country, some economists, Suzie Orman, a nationally recognized financial genius, AND, of all people, the majority of the current aspirants for the office of President of the United States, are accepting – are ignoring – the plight of the victims of greed. Yes indeed! They all (well, most of them), have the perfect solution. Each and every victim, THE JOBLESS, should become an ENTREPRENEUR. Ya know, many of the victims have not heard that impressive word until now. Many who have are not sure they know what it means.

I became confused by the sudden and overwhelming suggestion that entrepreneurship is a simple solution to our unemployment problem. Maybe I’m nuts (no comments, please), so I am, immediately, reaching for my cousin WEBster, and will provide you with the top definition or two: entrepreneur, n. 1. a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk. No need to add additional definition. This definition greatly strengthens my own previous definition/interpretation of its meaning.

What percentage of the jobless have the qualities, education, determination, skill and finances to become a successful entrepreneur? Oh yes, and the desire to gamble on the success of the “operation.”

Worse yet, the promoters are lacking in common sense and good judgement. Not only locally, but everywhere I visit, I see empty stores formally occupied by entrepreneurs. If I knew what multiplication factor I should use I would hazard to speculate how many supposed entrepreneurs, by definition, are now in the unemployment line; and too, the entrepreneurs that never needed a building for its operation.

The prosperity of this country, that made it the number one manufacturer of the world, was initiated by a handful or two of entrepreneurs. Throughout the last hundred years or so we have had successful entrepreneurs. However, no one seems to keep a record of the failures. Corporate greed most certainly does not encourage any entrepreneurship that may become competitive, by an individual with or without the resources to sustain his endeavor for a reasonable period of time.

Unless the concerned citizens of the United States pressure Congressional representatives into passing laws returning America’s lost industry to American soil, we will not only remain without industrial might, but will continue to lose jobs of all types.

In the meantime, pressure your Congresspersons to place tariffs on imported manufactured products, and, with no less emphasis, demand quality and a statement of product content.

My being the only one writing for change will accomplish nothing. Please join me, and encourage your friends to write.

- Bill Bronn

Editor et al.,

I had a most unpleasant experience when I was ordered by a Jury Summons to appear in the Jury Assembly Room on Spring St. in Kingman. Had I not looked at the county website under Jury Service, I may have not been aware of some very important information.

While standing out in the morning cold waiting for the security guards to open the Jury Assembly Room, I spoke to several people. Before even entering I was upset to find a 75-year-old woman in ill health AND a 83-year-old man who had just driven almost 100 miles, waiting in the cold with me. Federal law excuses potential federal jurors at age 70 and Arizona, including Mohave County, at age 75. Now why on God’s green earth were these seniors ever subjected to the hardship of reporting in the first place?

I have reviewed my initial “Notification of Prospective Service’’ which came with a Jury Questionnaire and also my Jury Summons. I think the answer to my question is neither official form explains what age exemptions are applicable and that you must ask to be excused in advance, in writing, or they ignore your age.

I’d bet my bottom dollar that 75-year-old woman from Bullhead on pain medicines can’t afford to even buy a computer or have the wherewithal to do computer searches. What I am trying to say is this is just another example of how seniors are being taken advantage of and I am mad as Hades about it.

The Mohave County court system should at the very least make all information that could eliminate a hardship for a senior readily available. Senior options should be printed in large bold print to seniors over the age of 70, with clear written correspondence and not hidden online.

Sure some seniors are tech savvy, but others are too ill and too poor and a special effort should be made with them BEYOND the local cattle call.

Yes, I stepped up in defense of the 83-year-old fellow who was behind me in line. The court clerk told me, “He can speak for himself.” He did and was excused immediately and before even entering the court room.

The whole experience gave me an over all feeling seniors were sort of being hijacked and intentionally tricked into jury duty when they really did not have to serve and could opt out.

Also as a closing thought, why is it no correspondence from the court clerk is dated? I wonder, if the situation was reversed, would the court accept undated official documents from you?

Dear Editor et al.,

In a surprising moment of factual realization Mohave County Supervisor Gary Watson earned himself applause and handshakes with an astonishing statement at the last Mohave County Supervisor Meeting.

In discussion and an open hearing on the demands for yet greater security for Mohave County’s Administration building, its employees and in particular the Mohave County Attorney’s Office, which represented by County Attorney Matt Smith was not only asking for further bulletproof glass but even bulletproof enforced walls.

Supervisor Gary Watson clearly recognized and stated that much of the urge for more security was caused by the Mohave County administration itself, by its attitudes and actions.

In spite of this clarity by Supervisor Watson, it becomes more and more clear that the Mohave County administration plans to transform the administration building into a bastion-like fortress.

I must really question the motives of the board of supervisors and county attorney Matt Smith for such drastic fortifications, after nearly 150 years of being an incorporated county.

Once this wasteful fortification project is completed and secured, it will necessarily have to be followed up by body guards and security escorts for administrators, attorneys and employees to justify all the investments for building security.

I am not aware of any incident in Mohave County’s history with which such drastic measures could be justified now that Osama bin Laden is dead.

It would be so much easier to run a legit county administration, law enforcement and judicial branch, completely without corruption and discrimination with respect to its constituents while being able to sleep peacefully and in harmony with God and county.

I mean, you really gotta have a seriously bad conscience if you have to resort to this kind of fortification.

The Treasury Department has said that in 2010 more than $4 billion in child credit refunds went to 2.3 million people who filed tax returns but did not have Social Security numbers proving they were citizens or legal workers in the United States. That is four times what it was five years ago.

You wonder why our country is going broke. All you have to do to collect all “the goodies” the Americans are willing to give away to illegal aliens is to cross our border (which is so easy that thousands do it every month).

More and more illegal aliens are now filing tax returns claiming this refundable credit, which they are not legally entitled to.

The republicans want to tighten eligibility by requiring those who claim this federal credit to have Social Security numbers to prove they are legal workers. The democrats say this is unfair to the illegal aliens. Excuse me. What part of this makes any sense? We, the United States of America, are broke. We do not have the money to take care of our own citizens yet the democrats want to keep giving our hard earned tax money to illegal aliens.

That makes as much sense as the Obama Administration stopping the Keystone Pipeline.

After all, that would only have given jobs to about 20 thousand out of work legal American citizens, kept our fuel costs from rising to prices the economy cannot afford and kept the United States from contributing to the wealth of our enemies.

“I heard there’s someone in the state Legislature trying to have a law passed that allows hunters to use silencers on their rifles,” says Crystal Glass. “Can that be true?”

“SURE IS!” hollers Wild Steve. “Some goofball down near Sierra Vista is trying to get the law passed; I read it in my NRA flier.”

“Why would anyone want to do that?” asks Sweet Peachy. “That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard.”

“From what I have heard, it is a man named David Gowan (R-30),” says Out of Town Dave. “Along with some associates and campaign contributors from the NRA, people are saying he is attempting to sneak into law on the shirttails of other legislation a proposal that would allow hunters to use noise suppressors (silencers). Mr. Gowan proudly asserts one of the reasons this is a good thing is it will keep people from complaining about firing ranges being too loud. Well … that was big news to me, and probably news to 99.9 percent of the people in Arizona. Were you aware that noise at firing ranges is high on the list of public hazards?”

“Not me!” shouts Steve. “What do those law makers put in their food down in southern Arizona anyway? I thought I did some real dumb things, but allowing hunters to have silencers on their rifles is really, really dumb.”

“I heard about it too,” says Nana Banana. “My husband is a member of the NRA, but says this type of thing is going a little bit too far. He read the part about rifle ranges being too loud, and laughed.”

“That’s nothing,” says Barbra Wire. “One advertisement from a firearm supplier touts the bill by asking, ‘When killing varmints in your yard, why disturb the neighbors?’ Are these people KIDDING? If your neighbor is shooting a firearm next to your home, would you want to know about it? I am thinking law enforcement would also like to know.”

“I am thinking the real reason behind this bill,” says Dave, “is for hunters, and is not in the public’s interest. Hunters spend thousands of dollars apiece each year so they can wander about the wilderness in search of assorted animals to kill. As it is now, the loud report from a rifle scares animals in the vicinity away, but with a silencer hunters can kill more animals in the same vicinity and in less time, thus making their large investment easier to justify.”

“Personally, I think this silencer thing is a dangerous idea,” says Jake Frost. “If you agree you need to call or email your representatives and tell them this is not a public safety issue, and allowing hunters to use silencers is a bad idea, and should be eliminated from HB 2728. As for Mr. Gowan, I think he should put on the pointy hat and go stand in the corner.”

Sympathetic John ends the day’s conversation by saying, “What’s a pointy hat?”

As I look out my window, I see President Obama on the way to Sweden for another Nobel prize.

He has just invented the way to affordable health care for every one in the U.S. in a way that can be duplicated around the world. Just mandate that insurance companies provide whatever is needed free to all.

That explains his entire theory of economics. Make it free and send the bill to those “rich” folks somewhere else. After all, they have too much money and acquired it in some immoral or illegal way in the first place.

After all, life must be “fair.”

This entire charade of letting religious institutions avoid forced coverage of birth control prescriptions to employees and students by mandating that the same insurance companies that provide other coverage for these same individuals include birth control “free” fits the Obama fantasy view of economics.

Of course it is fine because his health care law says so. The law gives him the right to dictate what insurance companies will cover.

His economic theory includes the mandate that all kinds of things be provided to whomever and some tooth fairy will leave the needed funds under the pillow. If you do not have a pillow, the same fairy will provide one.

That answers the economic side of the controversy this president created to keep Planned Parenthood happy.

What about the religious beliefs of the Catholic Church and many other religious individuals and groups in this country where the first amendment to the constitution guarantees that government stay out of religion?

Am I am expected, as a committed pro life religious person, to swallow this insane logic the president calls “brilliant?”

First, many churches believe and teach that all life is sacred and begins at conception. Many denominations believe this, not just the Roman Catholic faith. It is expected that children be conceived as part of a family to continue the human race. Candidate Mitt Romney’s church belief is centered in marriage, family and children.

Does our president believe these basic religious commitments and issues of conscience can be circumvented by the church contracting with insurance companies to provide health coverage with free contraceptives included because that part of the health care does not cost the church any money?

Obama’s Chief of Staff Lu explained on Fox News Sunday that this would actually “save” the insurance companies money because health care costs are lower when women have contraceptives paid for. That sounds like more of the Obama view of economic theory. Others just call it “double talk” or “spin.”

The decision, supported by Sec. of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, should not surprise any one. As governor of Kansas, she destroyed state documents to keep the attorney general from pursuing action against the famous abortion doctor. The doctor openly performed late term or third trimester abortions that killed babies right up to birth.

The original Roe vs. Wade U.S. Supreme court decision divided abortion law into the three trimesters of the nine month pregnancy. First three months were ruled legal, second three months ruled legal under specific circumstance and third trimester not legal.

That has opened the door for abortion on demand at any time before the baby is handed to the mother.

This decision by Obama and his staff is NOT about access to contraception. That is available free of cost in many places, including from the school nurse without letting the parent know.

It is all about the many mandates that are part of the Obamacare package Speaker Pelosi said “must be passed so we could find out what is in the bill.”

It is all about the First Amendment ban on government interference in religion.

It follows another government rule on adoption of babies and social services of the Catholic charities in Boston where the government demanded that the charity that had arranged more than half of all adoptions in Boston must include homosexual couples. How simple it would have been to let those couples go to the other adoption sources in Boston.

The result was to push the Catholic charities nearly out of business. So poor people and many babies were the victims of another government attempt to tell each of us what we must do,

Please, President Obama, get you and your liberal friends out of churches, homes, bedrooms and schools.

That is the tolerance that made America an exceptional nation that accepts diversity.
