LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Lake Havasu City republican Ron Gould said he’s kept his promises as District 3 state senator and that he’ll do the same in Washington if elected as a United States representative in northwest Arizona’s newly-configured District 4. Gould previously served two years on the Lake Havasu City Council and has begun his eighth year as state senator in Phoenix.
“I have a voting record that shows that I’m truly conservative,” Gould said. “I believe in the things I tell you about – my opponents, not necessarily so.”
Gould considers it a badge of honor that critics place him on the far right for his pro-gun, anti-tax and fiscal conservative views. The “voice in the wilderness” senator thinks he’d find more philosophical company in Washington.
“I would expect that there’s a larger percentage of people that feel the same way that I do – that government spending is out of control – in Congress,” Gould said. He believes more people of his mindset need to be elected to put the country back on course.
“We need to change the direction of the United States, and that will be like turning the Titanic, but it needs to be done if we want to survive as a nation,” Gould said. “The states actually formed the federal government and gave them limited power, but they seem to want to control everything now. A lot of times it’s difficult to get anything done at the state or local level because the federal government has taken over all of that authority. So, if you really want to make changes, you need to do it at the federal level.”
Gould said he’s excited about a Congressional campaign that he expects to be taxing.
“It’s the big league of politics is what it is. You know it’s probably 100-fold more intense than being in the legislature,” Gould said.
“It’ll be a big commitment for me and my family, but you know we’re willing to do that because if we don’t change the direction that the United States is headed in I predict that the United States will cease to exist as a nation.”

I sent this to you last year and was blown off claiming the lack of State funds. The news paper says we now have a heady surplus, When will you address this?
Sen. Ron Gould January 10, 2011
Rep. Nancy McLain
Why are the courts only paying 12.00 dollars a day AND 44.5 cents per mile?
I just drove Some 66 miles to Kingman and sat through the jury section process. “Jurors are reimbursed for the mileage from their home at a rate of 44.5 cents per mile.” NOT the standard $.50 per mile per GSA.
The clerics of the court informed us the fee of $12.00 has been in place since early 1900’s with out change. In Arizona the minimum wage is $7.25, per hour
A.R.S. 21-221 section 2 has tired the travel pay to that of state officials.
Many people begged off claim finical hardship. According to Arizona Hourly Wages and Salaries 2005 an hour (Lawyers employed by the county) was paid $25.70 per hour. Judges, Magistrate Judges, and Magistrates were paid $36.52 per hour. This information was gleaned from the internet and dated 2005. Ref: http://www.mohavedevelopment.org/edic/labor_force_and_wages/wages/arizona_wages_salaries_2005_37_pgs.pdf, Occupation Code 23-XXXX.
I would bet the rest of the people working in the court system earn well above the minimum wage.
Several people I talked to in effect they would not be stuck in court for three days. A lot of the stores I heard were just to get out of court they needed to be at work; in this economy $12.00 a day was nonsense. The minimum wages reflect that an eight hour day’s wages are $58.00.
I feel that Up-dating daily jury duty compensation must at least minimum wage.
Daily Per Diem for meals needs to be added.
Cost of transportation in personal cars need to be set to GSA standards.

21-221. Fees and mileage
A. Each juror shall be paid by the county:
1. For each day’s attendance upon the superior court or justice court, twelve dollars.
2. For each mile necessarily traveled from his residence to the court and back to his residence, an amount equal to the amount paid to state officers and employees pursuant to section 38-623, subsection A. Reimbursement shall be at the computed mileage rate regardless of whether the travel is accomplished by private, rented or chartered motor vehicle. When a juror necessarily returns to his residence and travels back to court during the period of service because of a recess ordered by the court, he shall be paid on the same basis for such travel.
B. Attendance on the court shall include the first day a juror is required to attend and shall continue each day of actual attendance on the court thereafter, until the juror is either temporarily or permanently excused from jury service. Any juror who is excused from further attendance upon the first day of this appearance in obedience to a summons shall receive a mileage allowance only.
I worked a lot of years for a fair wages. One thing I don’t do is waste my time for a slap in the face. I show up for court when I am called, l let my feelings be known, I am sent home.
I WILL NOT WASTE TIME ON JURY DUTY.
