Lucy Arredondo (Ferguson) Braithwait was born on July 27, 1934 to Ponciano and Carolina Avila in Kingman, Arizona and returned to the Lord early Christmas morning December 25, 2016 at the age of 82. She attended Mohave County Union High School where she excelled in the curriculum of the school academic studies program, was a member of the school band, a member of the Girls’ Athletic Association and was a superior softball player with the Kingman Gold Diggers softball team. She married Elmer Ferguson and had four sons over the next several years. In 1973 she married Stanley ‘Speed’ Braithwait, together they doted on and enjoyed showing off their Pomeranians, Princess then Precious, and followed later by Prince. At the end of the 1950’s she began her career at the new Arizona Ford Proving Grounds where she retired from 31 years later. Lucy also began bowling in the early 60’s and was a Tuesday night mixed league standout into the 2000’s when she had to give it up for health reasons. Lucy enjoyed watching and scoring ‘her’ Diamondbacks as well as collecting D’Back memorabilia. Lucy was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she leaves behind many friends and acquaintances including her ‘pew buddies’. Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Ponciano Arredondo and Carolina Avila Arredondo; her sister, also named Luz; brothers, Jesse ‘Chuy’ Arredondo and Joe Arredondo. Lucy is survived by her brothers, Angel Arredondo and Arturo ‘Art’ Arredondo; her sons, Gary (Donna) Ferguson, Larry (Jan) Ferguson, Keith (Dorothy) Ferguson and Earl (Kim) Ferguson; and by her grandchildren; Monica Ann, Eli, Jeanette, Sean, Heather, Nicholas, Austin and Steven; and 10 great-grandchildren. There will be visitation from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with Rosary to follow, on Friday evening, January 6 at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Sycamore Ave., Kingman, AZ. There will be Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 302 W. Spring St., officiated by Fr. Matthew Krempel. Graveside service will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery. There will be a reception at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall, provided by the Bells of St. Mary’s, following the graveside service.
