There was some confusion at the hearing before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Steve Conn as he and attorneys failed to determine whether a previous theft conviction involved misuse of money from the senator’s private business in Lake Havasu City. The defendant’s mother and father-in-law told the Judge that they believe Gould can be a good father and productive citizen provided he gets help for his drug dependence.
Defense attorney Barshaunda Robinson said her client accepts responsibility for the theft and wants to reunite with his wife and newborn baby. She said that Gould had already suffered some punishment because he had to resign his elected republican party precinct committee position as a result of his arrest.
“He had some political aspirations,” Robinson said.
Judge Conn ordered that Gould serve 75 days in jail, crediting him with the 36 days he already spent in custody. Judge Conn placed Gould on probation for three years and ordered that he reimburse Pawn World $315, compensating for the cash he was provided when he pawned his father-in-law’s property.
