KINGMANUnder clear, sunny skies and heat in the triple digits, 44 golfers dedicated their game to the Kingman Powerhouse Kiwanis Clothe the Kids fundraiser.

On Saturday, August 4, Cerbat Cliffs Golf Course was alive with excitement as golfers, volunteers and their families arrived for the 22nd annual golf tournament hosted by Kingman’s local Kiwanis club.

The day began early with brisk sales of raffle tickets for gifts donated by local businesses happy to support the event. Spirits were high as the teams set off to conquer the 18-hole course which overlooks Kingman’s spectacular scenic views. Flags and tee box signs proudly displayed the logos of area businesses that provided substantial sponsorships.

The monies raised from this event go to purchase winter coats, clothing and shoes for local school children. Annually in December, the Kiwanis members take the children on a $100 shopping spree to purchase much-needed items. Each child is given the opportunity to select their favorite colors and designs. In 2017, over 200 applications were accepted. A portion of the money is used to purchase school t-shirts and shoes for children at Kingman elementary schools throughout the year.

Club president, Chanel Turner was pleased with the day’s results. “We could not do this without the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers and members,” she commented. “The golf course manager, Levi Pitts and his staff have done an outstanding job as usual.”

By early afternoon, golfers buzzed in on their electric carts from the final hole, to be greeted by tubs of ice cold water and a fine luncheon buffet catered by Chef Gaul. The clubhouse reverberated with cheering and applause as the winners were announced and prizes were handed out.

Turner was all smiles. “This is a fine example of the quality of our community,” she remarked. “We do this because 100% of the money raised goes directly back into the community. The Kiwanis members themselves cover all administrative costs.”

Kingman Powerhouse Kiwanis is now accepting new members and donations. For more information, please contact Marcia Beecham at -(928-715-2029.
