The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting an emergency gather of wild burros to respond to increasing public safety concerns along State Route 95 just north of Lake Havasu City.

"The purpose of this gather is to help protect wild burros as well as motorists who are traveling to Lake Havasu's fantastic recreation opportunities," said William Mack, Colorado River District Manager. ``It is important for our agency to find the needed balance in public land use that keeps both the public and wildlife safe."

The BLM will gather approximately 50 animals, and transport the burros to the BLM Wild Horse and Burro facility in Florence, Ariz., where they will be prepared for possible adoption. For more information on how to adopt a wild horse or burro, please visit https://www.blm.gov/programs/wild-horse-and-burro.
