One Labrador retriever was killed in Saturday incident

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City man was jailed after he allegedly entered his neighbor’s home when she was not there and fired multiple shots into two Labrador retrievers for reportedly barking. One of the dogs died.

Lake Havasu City Police responded to the home in the 1600 block of Avalon Avenue at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.

“Contact was made with a neighbor who had complained about dogs barking at the residence back in 2015, but nothing recently,” said police spokesman Sgt. Tom Gray. “During the investigation it was discovered that Mark G. Mleziva unlawfully entered his neighbor's home while she was gone and shot two of the dogs multiple times with a .22 caliber pistol after becoming upset at the dogs for barking."

Gray said one of the Labradors died of its injuries while the other is recovering after being treated at an animal care facility. Mleziva was charged with burglary, trespassing, disorderly conduct with a weapon and two counts of inflicting an injury to an animal.
