WIKIEUP – A reckless driver has been faulted for a fatal three-vehicle crash south of Wikieup. The incident prompted a six-hour closure of the main highway linking Las Vegas and Phoenix Thursday evening.

A statement from the Arizona Department of Transportation indicates U.S. 93 was closed just before 6 p.m. and was not fully reopened to traffic until midnight.

The crash occurred about 50 miles south of Wikieup, some 15 miles outside Mohave County.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred when the driver of a Nissan hatchback passed a tractor-trailer in a no-pass zone before striking a Ford SUV that subsequently crashed head-on with a Hyundai sedan.

DPS spokesman Bart Graves said the driver of the SUV, Robin Robinson, 62, of Mesa, died at the scene.

Graves said others who were hurt in the crash were transported to Phoenix area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
