LAKE MOHAVE – An apparent drowning is under investigation at Lake Mohave.

The National Park Service was notified at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday that a teenager had possibly drowned while swimming at Cabinsite Cove, said agency spokeswoman Christie Vanover.

“Initial reports indicate the teen was swimming out to a buoy. On his way back, bystanders reportedly noticed he was having difficulty and saw him go underwater," Vanover said. “He was not wearing a life jacket. Bystanders retrieved him from the water and performed CPR until first responders arrived.”

The Bullhead City Fire Department said the 17-year-old whose name was initially withheld was first transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

Vanover said he was subsequently transported to a Las Vegas hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Clark County Medical Examiner will identify the victim and determine cause of death.
