MOHAVE COUNTY - One candidate for the Colorado River Union High School District governing board has failed to knock another off the general election ballot.

Royanne Oritz filed a lawsuit challenging nominating petitions submitted by fellow candidate Carlos Lopez.

Ortiz alleged that Lopez failed to gather the minimum number of valid signatures necessary to qualify his candidacy for the Nov. 6 general election. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen ruled Aug. 30 that Ortiz did not meet her burden of proof to disqualify Lopez.

Accordingly, Lopez remains among a group of eight candidates challenging two incumbents for three seats on the school district governing board.
