Bell tells deputies the gun was unloaded, daughter had 'disciplinary issues'

FORT MOHAVE – A Fort Mohave man has been arrested for encouraging his teenage daughter to commit suicide.

A spokeswoman with the Mohave County Sheriff's office said the 14-year-old girl told school officials that her father gave her a gun and told her to kill herself.

Deputies interviewed the victim and her father, Ulys Lafette Bell IV, 38. Bell told authorities he has had ongoing disciplinary issues with the girl.

“Bell admitted to the offense, advising the gun was not loaded,” said interim sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sue Callahan in an email. “He presented her with a 9mm handgun and told her to pull the trigger.”

Bell was booked into jail Monday night on a child abuse charge.
