KINGMAN - A Kingman woman accused of embezzling nearly $140,000 from the Western Arizona school district that formerly employed her attended a Jan. 3 pre-trial hearing at the Mohave County courthouse.

Deborah Long, 43, allegedly abused her position as business manager to siphon funds from the Western Arizona Vocational Educational Joint Technical District.

Defense attorney Lee Novak informed Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle that he has not yet engaged in thorough review of extensive case disclosure provided by the Arizona Attorney General’s office. Novak also told the Judge that he would confer with prosecutor Joseph Waters on Jan. 15 about the possibility of resolving the case short of trial.

Long’s next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 25.
