The Mohave County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) units have a continuing need for donations for their ongoing and future rescue efforts, various missions and training.

MCSO SAR units are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that operate solely on donations and they do not receive any formal funding from the state, Sheriff or Mohave County government. All of the donations to SAR are tax deductible.

There are four units, with a total of about 140 volunteer members, located in Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City and the Arizona Strip. The SAR mission is to assist the Sheriff in serving the community by carrying out search and rescue missions and other duties as requested by the Sheriff.

SAR members have participated this year in 96 missions, 36 training exercises and various community events, in addition to assisting other agencies in the tri-state area.

All volunteers pay for their individualized-personal equipment and 4X4 vehicles, and all donations received by the SAR are used exclusively for purchasing unit equipment and furthering the training of its members.

Those interested in making donations to a MCSO SAR or would like information about becoming a member of a particular unit can do so by contacting: Kingman unit Amanda Kaufman at or call (928) 757-1920; Bullhead City unit Sean Borland at or call (928) 542-3342; Lake Havasu unit Gene Hepler at or call (928) 303-6711; and/or Arizona Strip unit Todd Sosey at or call (702) 245-2057.
